About Travelodge

Travelodge is the UK’s fastest growing and most recognised budget hotel company.

In 1985, Travelodge opened the UK’s very first budget hotel on the A38, in Barton under Needlewood. Today the company is the country’s fastest growing and most innovative hotel chain with over 470 hotels across the UK, Ireland and Spain.

Travelodge Barton under Needwood, the first Travelodge to open in 1985

Travelodge is the largest hotel brand in London, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Cambridge and around 80% of Travelodge hotels are now located in major city centres and popular holiday hotspots. The Travelodge brand has a range of hotel designs including: purpose built hotels, grade ll listed buildings, office conversions, acquisitions of existing hotels and co-partnerships with leading pub companies and supermarkets.

This year Travelodge will build 40 hotels creating over 800 new jobs across the UK

Our Mission Statement

Last year, 74% of the population in the UK stayed away from home, but only 38% of them stayed in a hotel.

The reason that more people don’t stay in hotels is simple – they just can’t find a good quality hotel where they want to stay, at a price that’s right for them.

Our objective is to make hotels available to everyone by consistently offering our customers great value hotels where they want to stay.

The company has a target to expand to 1,100 hotels and 100,000 rooms by 2025. This is the equivalent of opening a new hotel every ten working days, and will be achieved via organic growth (building new hotels, converting existing hotels and changing use in existing office buildings).

A Values Based Organisation

Travelodge has four values which guide every decision that we make:

An eCommerce Business That Happens To Sell Bedrooms

Travelodge is an e-commerce business. 90% of room bookings are through Travelodge.co.uk

This means that we can keep our prices low. In fact, our lowest prices are always available on-line. Last year we sold c7 million rooms, 40% of these were £29 or below. One million rooms were £19 or below

We constantly check the rates of every hotel in the UK, up to three times a day, to ensure that our prices are the most competitive within the marketplace.

As a result www.travelodge.co.uk is the UK’s most visited hotel website.

Our People At The Heart of Our Business

What makes Travelodge unique is its people. There are over 6,000 people employed across the UK, Ireland and Spain.

Each year we create at least 500 new jobs. In the last 4 years, 35% of the people joining us were previously unemployed - many of them were “long term” unemployed.

Not only that, but we firmly believe that everyone joining Travelodge should have the opportunity to develop a meaningful career. Last year we filled 75% of our management vacancies internally. We have created a unique 12 week Management Development Programme (MDP) that fast tracks entry level staff into hotel management. The programme is available to all employees regardless of their current position or length of service and to date more than 300 staff members have been promoted via this route.

In addition, one in ten of Travelodge employees has achieved or is studying towards a National Vocational Qualification. A number of managers have also been sponsored to study towards a Foundation Degree in Hospitality Management.

In April 2011, Travelodge launched the UK’s first budget hotel management apprenticeship programme for school leavers. The scheme titled JuMP (Junior Management Programme) is a fast track route into management and provides A -level students (18+) with a real alternative to going to university. On this programme school leavers can continue their education, obtain work experience, receive a salary and become a manager by the age of 21.

Our aim is that by 2015, 45% of our managers will have joined us via JuMP.
